A ‘no cards for Christmas’ collection pot has allowed PCC John Campion and his team to give presents to women who are facing Christmas in a refuge this year.

Instead of the PCC’s office exchanging Christmas cards, the team decided to, as they have in previous years, donate to charity instead. This year’s collection, for West Mercia Women’s Aid, was further boosted by the local Sainsbury’s community pot and a very kind member of the public who also donated to the cause.

The presents will be given to women who are in refuges across West Mercia over the Christmas period to make sure that they can still enjoy it as much as possible.

PCC John Campion said: “This year our collection pot seemed even more important, as we know that many women will have faced lockdown, and subsequent restrictions, with their abusers and will have desperately wanted to seek refuge.

“Many of the women will have escaped their previous living arrangements in haste, and not necessarily had the opportunity to take all their personal items, let alone think about sorting out Christmas presents. Therefore, we hope that these small gifts will bring some joy to their day despite their personal situation.”
