FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 – INFORMATION REQUEST
Request.
Dear West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner, I understand that you are also responsible for the governance for FIRE and rescue services for Hereford & Worcester.
INTRODUCTION
I know the new combined Fire Station and new Police Station in Middlehouse Lane, Redditch is nearing completion.
We know that this new PS will not have a custody suite and those individuals which the police want to detain will still need to be taken to Kidderminster, Worcester, or somewhere else.
I’ve been asked to try and find out what is the plan for the current FIRE station.
I expect it will be demolished, but what then?
QUESTIONS
1. Who owns the land?
2. Is the intention to sell it before demolition or after demolition?
3. Is the intention to build a POLICE CUSTODY SUITE on this site? – [It is ideally situated next door to the new Police Station]
4. And kindly provide any other information which the residents in Redditch should know.
Response.
- The land that the current Fire Station is situated on is owned by Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Authority (HWFRA).
- The intention is for a transfer of the site to Redditch Borough Council once the site has been demolished.
- There will be no custody suite built on the former Fire Station site or as part of the new combined facility.
- Hopefully the above answers the questions – HWFRS and West Mercia Police are looking to move to the new site Quarter 4 2024 – Quarter1 2025.
Yours sincerely,
FOI Officer
West Mercia OPCC
