Telford and Wrekin Leader Cllr Shaun Davies has met with West Mercia Police & Crime Commissioner John Campion, where they agreed to work together on a range of important local issues including child sexual exploitation and decriminalizing on street parking.

Cllr Davies said: “I had a very good meeting with Mr Campion and I am delighted that he is committed to ensuring that we get the right police resources and that the borough will continue to retain its dedicated police commander who will be responsible for both community and investigative policing.

“We discussed the borough’s individual set of community challenges and priorities, such as the work we and other partners are undertaking in areas like tackling child sexual exploitation.  We both agreed that we must continue our fight to keep the most vulnerable safe in our community.”

John Campion, Police & Crime Commissioner said, “Both the council and the police face very challenging issues and that’s why it’s vital we are both committed to working very closely together.  It was good to meet Councillor Davies and I’m confident together we can continue to meet the challenges that our communities face.”

“I was pleased to be able to discuss decriminalising on street parking with the Leader, which I know is an issue to many residents and I am pleased he is open to considering the issue.”

A Council cross party scrutiny committee is due to begin to look at civil parking enforcement this autumn. The council leader and PCC have both committed to regular meetings in the future.
