PCC John Campion will ensure that additional funding from the government is maximised to benefit West Mercia communities.

The government announced yesterday, 30th January, that £100m of additional funding will be given to police forces across the country for neighbourhood policing. It is expected, based on the funding formula, that West Mercia Police will receive an additional circa £1.5m however no detail has been given on exactly how the money should be spent.

PCC John Campion said: “Any additional money for policing is of course welcome, and I am pleased the government share my priority and focus of ensuring police officers are at the heart of communities. However, this late announcement makes it harder to plan to spend the money given that it has come after most of the decisions have been made.

“We haven’t yet received clarity on how the money should be spent, although it isn’t going to solve the financial challenges we have been addressing when setting the budget. It is hoped that more detail will be given soon, and I will ensure that the funding is focused on delivering for those living in Herefordshire, Shropshire and Worcestershire.”
