PCC John Campion has welcomed details of the police funding settlement today, which supports his continued drive to create safer communities across Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Worcestershire.

The Government has published the provisional Police Grant Report for 2022/23. The PCC has welcomed news of additional police officers and grant funding, as well as funding indications for the next three years which will aide future planning and longer term projects.

PCC John Campion said: “I welcome the backing of the Government, who have recognised the commitment I share of keeping the public safe. They have clearly listened to concerns that have been raised by communities.

“As Commissioner I have introduced additional officers and secured further funding for the benefit of West Mercia’s communities, I therefore promise to make good this investment to ensure there are further benefits. Today’s news will support me in my drive to do more, which includes improving the quality of investigations in order to give victims the justice they deserve.

“The flexibility around the policing precept is also welcomed, as it is in line with a public consultation I’m currently running. Before I finalise my draft budget plans, I would encourage anyone who hasn’t yet had their say to do so before 3rd January.”
