The Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion welcomes a positive step forward  from the Government to prevent Violence Against Women and Girls across the country, with the introduction of a new strategy.

As part of the strategy, the Government look to introduce a dedicated Senior Police Officer to lead on supporting the safety of women and girls. Alongside this new post there will be a focus on helping victims through prevention, supporting survivors, pursuing perpetrators and stronger systems.

PCC John Campion says “The introduction of the VAWG Strategy supports my commitment to the women and girls of West Mercia,  I promised I would fight hard to ensure this community are safe but also feel safe. I will continue to work hard to secure resources for the victims of sexual crimes.

“It is imperative that we support these victims when they are at their most vulnerable, maintaining the trust and supporting them to continue with the process through to prosecution.

“Building on the £2M of extra funding I have already secured, I am committed to acquiring further funding to support the VAWG organisations across West Mercia, as well as increasing the funding for perpetrator programmes to prevent the violence from ever happening which in turn will reduce and prevent reoffending. Alongside this work I continue to work with national key agencies to secure more sustainable long term funding in this area.”
