Businesses and visitors to Shrewsbury town centre are being reassured that CCTV systems are monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week – and more cameras are on their way, via the ‘Safer Streets’ fund secured by the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner.

The additional CCTV is being installed as part of an investment of almost £550,000 in projects across Shropshire designed to make communities safer.

Match funding is being provided from the Police and Crime Commissioner, Shropshire County Council, Shrewsbury Town Council, Shrewsbury BID, Shrewsbury Watch, West Mercia Police, Shrewsbury Street Pastors and Shropshire Community Safety Partnership.

Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said: “I am committed to building communities in Shrewsbury that are safe and feel safe. This significant investment is just one example of how, working in partnership we can prevent and detect crime in order to build safer communities for all.”
