People living in Worcestershire feel the most confident in the service provided by West Mercia Police (82%), compared to the other counties covered by the force, according to the latest results from Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion’s perception survey.

The figures are for January to March 2025, compared to the same period in 2024.

However, satisfaction levels have fallen year on year, with an 8% drop in the rolling 12-month average in North Worcestershire and a 6% drop in South Worcestershire, in the number of people who felt West Mercia Police was doing an excellent or good job.

South Worcestershire residents feel amongst the least informed about what West Mercia Police is doing in their area (47%), compared to 48% in North Worcestershire. Herefordshire scored the lowest (46%) and Telford & Wrekin scored the highest (52%).

Other findings include –

  • People living in South Worcestershire are least likely to be a victim of or witness to a crime (12% – joint with Shropshire)
  • Almost nine out of 10 of those surveyed in South Worcestershire (89%) reported their area felt safe over the period January to March 2025. The figure was 2% lower in North Worcestershire at 87%.

Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said: “I’m committed to putting the voice of the public at the heart of policing and these perception surveys are one means by which I do that.

“Clearly action needs to be taken to both understand and address why satisfaction levels in West Mercia Police have gone down compared to the same quarter the previous year in Worcestershire.

“I regularly engage with the Chief Constable and will be raising this with him as an area of concern around which action needs to be taken urgently.”
