A poster competition giving school children an opportunity to express what road safety means to them has seen a Herefordshire school named a winner!

More than 700 creative posters were submitted by 24 primary schools as part of Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion’s competition in December.

One of only eight winners across West Mercia, Isla from Ashperton Primary School was visited by APCC Paul Middlebrough and West Mercia Police who delivered a mini-police officer and an assembly on road safety.

PCC John Campion said: “At the heart of my Safer West Mercia Plan is a focus on improving road safety in West Mercia.

“It was brilliant to see so many primary school children getting involved in my poster competition, and coming up with creative ways of illustrating what road safety means to them.

“Isla’s Stop, Look and Listen sign was a stand-out entry, and her school and she should be incredibly proud of her efforts to promote safe driving in the community.”

The mini-police officer will now stand outside Ashperton Primary, reminding motorists to drive safely and park responsibly as children go to and from school.
